To enable the NFS Client on Windows 11, open the Start menu, search for Turn Windows features on or off, scroll down to Services for NFS, check the box (along with its sub-options Administrative Tools and Client for NFS), and click OK.

Enabling via Graphical Interface (GUI)

  • Press the Windows Key and type Turn Windows features on or off.
  • Click the top result from the Control Panel search.
  • Scroll down the list and locate Services for NFS.
  • Click the plus icon or check the main box to expand it.
  • Ensure both Client for NFS and Administrative Tools are checked.
  • Click OK and wait for Windows to apply the changes.
  • Restart your computer if prompted.

Enabling via PowerShell

  • Right-click the Start button and select Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
  • Run the following command:
    Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName ServicesForNFS-ClientOnly
  • Press Enter and restart your system if required.

How to Mount an NFS Share

  • Open a Command Prompt or PowerShell window.
  • Use the mount command with your network path and local drive letter. For example:
    mount -o anon \\192.168.1.50\share_name Z:
  • Replace 192.168.1.50\share_name with your server’s actual IP and export path, and Z: with your preferred unused drive letter.
